Did you know? Kinabalu Park is Malaysia’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site and it was recognized in 2000 for its incredible biodiversity. It is home to Mount Kinabalu, the highest peak in Southeast Asia at 4,095 meters. The park spans 754 square kilometers which is larger than Singapore. It shelters over 5,000 plant species including rare orchids and the giant Rafflesia flower. Kinabalu Park is truly a paradise for nature lovers, hikers and adventure seekers.

Attractions:

1. Poring Hot Spring

Poring gets its name from a type of giant bamboo that grows widely in the area. Located about 40 km from Kinabalu Park Headquarters, it sits 400 meters above sea level and is surrounded by lush lowland forest with towering dipterocarp trees. The highlight here is the natural hot sulphur springs, first introduced during World War II, where visitors can soak in open-air pools or choose a private bath. Poring is also home to a 43-meter-high canopy walkway that offers a stunning view of the rainforest. If you are lucky, you may even catch a glimpse of the Rafflesia, the world’s largest flower, blooming nearby.

2. Kipungit Waterfall

Kipungit Waterfall is the closest cascade to Poring Hot Spring & Nature Reserve, located just 1 km away with a pleasant 15-minute walk. Standing about 10 meters high, it is an ideal spot for families and groups to enjoy a picnic and relax in nature.

3.  Langanan Waterfall

Langanan Waterfall is the tallest waterfall in Poring, soaring over 120 meters high. Reaching it requires a rewarding trek of about 3.4 km, which takes around two hours through the rich lowland tropical forest.

4. Bat Cave

Located about a 30-minute walk from the main entrance of Poring Hot Spring, the trail lies along the way to Langanan Waterfall.
